Weeks of work from many within the community may reach its summit Thursday evening as the Floyd County SPLOST Committee prepares to finalize their list of projects before putting it to the people for a vote this November.
Floyd County Manager Jamie McCord says his expectation is that the 12 member Committee, led by Chairman David Newby, will complete their SPLOST list of about $63,000,000 worth of improvements by the original deadline of August 1st;
“We do expect to hopefully finalize the list. The committee has worked extremely hard over the past six to eight weeks…long hours. Last week they really got down and dirty and started putting some numbers to their board. They stopped at about $56,700,000 and decided to call it a night and come back this week and hopefully finish up, I think it’s definitely the goal. Our target for collection for the five years is $63,000,000 so they’re very close.”
The Committee will be selecting a few more projects for the SPLOST out of a remaining group of less than ten. Of the choices yet to make the master list, McCord says the project most important to him is energy efficiency upgrades for local government facilities.
Overall, McCord says the projects are a good mix of “things you want and things you need.”
