Tonight is the official kickoff for the 2013 high school football seasons for the majority of Northwest Georgia teams.

In what could be classified as the game-of-the-week the #1 ranked Calhoun Yellow Jackets will have a tough challenge as they begin their season this evening by travelling north to Rossville to take on the Ridgeland Panthers. Calhoun finished the 2012 season at 14-1 with an upset loss to Jackson in the state final.

Rome is at historic Barron Stadium this evening as they welcome South Paulding. Kickoff is at 8 pm for the Wolves and
Spartans.

The Gordon Central Warriors open their 2013 season on the road in Floyd County against the Coosa Eagles in a non-region matchup.

Sonoraville High School begins their 2013 campaign just down the road in Jasper against the Pickens Dragons.

Darlington and Cartersville meet at Chris Hunter Stadium in Rome. Darlington is coming off a blowout win over Murphy, N.C. High last weekend, while the Canes will be playing their first game of the season.

In Bartow County Adairsville travels to meet their neighbors in the form of the Cass Colonels in the opener for both programs.

A classic rivalry matchup in Polk County this evening as Cedartown welcomes Rockmart.

Meanwhile Pepperell travels to take on the Northwest-Whitfield Bruins tonight. The Dragons will be making one of their longest road trips of the season.

In Chattooga County the Trion Bulldogs will host the Armuchee Indians in non-region action.

The Woodland Wildcats are coming off a tough road loss to Villa Rica and their journey gets no easier tonight when they face the Allatoona Bucs in Acworth.

Finally, Model High is on the road this evening versus Christian Heritage.

All games other than Rome-South Paulding get underway at 7:30 pm tonight.
