The Floyd County Police Department would like to provide the following information to the media and the public concerning an incident that occurred on 29 August 2013 in the area of Boulder Rd. in eastern Floyd County.
On this date a report of a burglary was received by the Rome/Floyd E911 center. Officers responded to the scene and a search of the area was conducted. Also on this date a K-9 officer from the City of Rome Police Department was requested to conduct a search of the wooded area around the residence. During the report it was discovered that the victim had been assaulted and had shot at the male suspect while he was on the scene. During the search immediately after the incident officers were unable to locate a suspect. There have been subsequent searches of the area that have failed to reveal any possible locations of the suspect.
The Floyd County Police Department would like to ask residents to be on the lookout for the suspect and a vehicle that was possibly involved in the incident. The incident occurred at approximately 1845 hours, the male suspect was described as a white male, 5’7”-5’8” tall, slim build and wearing a dark colored hoodie, mask and camouflage gloves. A witness reported seeing a 1999-2000 model Toyota Avalon with gold trim and damage to the rear driving in the area during this time. The driver was described as an older male with short hair and a bushy grey mustache. It is believed at this time that the male suspect who entered the residence was struck by a bullet while on the scene and may have an injury that appears to be a gunshot wound.
