UPDATED WEDNESDAY MORNING: Bartow County Coroner Joel Guyton has released further details about the death of an unidentified person whose remains were found in a wooded area Tuesday. The body was discovered near the ramp for Exit 285 on I-75 at Red Top Mountain Road in Bartow County. The victim is a male and died from a self-inflicted gunshot wound to the head. Guyton estimated that the body had been in the woods for 5 to 6 days before it was discovered Tuesday afternoon. The victim's vehicle was also found abandoned near the scene, parked next to the interstate. Due to body decomposition, Guyton stated that the body must undergo DNA testing before a positive identification can be made, which will take several weeks to complete.
