Northwest Georgian Congressman Phil Gingrey is making national news again---this time for mourning his $174,000 salary.
According to the Atlanta Journal Constitution, the Senate hopeful incensed a few fellow GOP members with comments on his income made behind closed doors Thursday. The house republicans were deliberating Gingrey’s proposal that would bar the federal government from subsidizing members of Congress and their staff on Obamacare exchanges.
In defense of his plan, Gingrey told his counterparts that, while Capital aides may not make a lot of money, they would eventually end up as lobbyists making $500,000. Meanwhile, he lamented, “I’m stuck here making $172,000 a year.”
Gingrey told the National Review on Thursday he doesn’t remember texactly what he said, but his general point was that it is ‘unfair for Congress and their staffers to receive special treatment the public was not getting.’
Representative Gingrey makes $174,000 a year and has a net-worth of $3 million.
