UPDATED 11:10 AM MONDAY: Floyd County Deputy Coroner Ernie Studard has revealed to WRGA the identity of the victim killed in a single-vehicle crash on State Highway 156 Monday morning as John William Patterson, age 24, of Summerville.
Police were called to the scene after reports came through radio dispatch about 6:30 am Monday about power lines being down. The vehicle apparently crashed into a utility pole.
Studard says Patterson wrecked his vehicle in the 3700 block of Highway 156, also known as New Rosedale Road. Studard says road conditions were dry at the time of the crash. Floyd County police will continue their investigation into the accident to determine what caused the Chattooga County man’s vehicle to leave the roadway.
Patterson was pronounced dead at the crash scene at approximately 7 am.
Monday's incident continues an unfortunate string of fatal wrecks in Northwest-Georgia in recent days, which have also claimed lives of young drivers in Gordon County (Friday) and Bartow County (Saturday).
