Two Men Jailed in Bartow for Child Molestation

Two men, one from Floyd County and the other from Gordon, were jailed within a few hours of one another this week by Bartow County Sheriff’s deputies for allegedly committing sexual crimes against children.

According to reports, Ronnie Merrill Ashby, age 41 of Rome, and Marshall Dalton Palma, age 20 of Calhoun, were arrested in recent days and each face multiple felonies related to various acts of child molestation. The suspected crimes are not related.

Ashby was jailed shortly before 3:30 am Wednesday and has been charged with two counts of Aggravated Child Molestation, Aggravated Sodomy and Sexual Battery and one count of Incest.

Palma was taken into custody about 11:15 pm Tuesday night and is charged with two counts of Aggravated Child Molestation and Child Molestation.

According to a source close to the investigation who spoke on condition of anonymity, investigators have been building a case against Palma since March of 2011 when the original complaint was filed with police. The victim is a white female currently under the age of 14. At the time the alleged crimes took place the victim was 10 years old while Palma was 18.
