The Georgia State Patrol announced Wednesday morning that six people were killed during the more than four day counting period surrounding the New Year’s holiday weekend.

GSP data shows nearly 600 crashes being reported during the approximately 100 hour counting period, yielding about 270 injuries. The drunk drivers were out in force as well, as GSP troopers served more than 320 DUI’s to impaired motorists.

None of the fatal crashes took place in Northwest-Georgia, though a death was reported in Cobb County.

While there were no driving-related-deaths in Northwest Georgia during the New Year’s holiday period, the Christmas holiday period was a different story entirely, as three Bartow residents were killed in Gordon County on Christmas Day. A Floyd County resident was also killed in a car crash on December 22nd on Abrams Road.

Overall it was Christmas, not New Year’s, which proved to be the more deadly holiday for drivers across the state.
