Authorities have identified the gunman who allegedly shot himself following a standoff between police in Cedar Bluff, Al. Saturday.
According to WEIS News, 23-year-old Chad Allen Kilgore of Rome became violent with his wife at a Cherokee Drive address in Cedar Bluff. He reportedly shot at her and then hit her in the head with a gun before traveling to a Summerplace Road home and holing up inside.
Upon their arrival, Cherokee County Sherriff’s Deputies attempted to talk with Kilgore, but he did not respond. Authorities believed he was armed with handguns, a shotgun and an AK47 Semi-automatic rifle, leading them to evacuate residents from nearby homes.
A Tactical Unit from Etowah County took over the operation and attempted contact Kilgore, who once again, did not answer.
At 7:25pm, the decision was made to enter the house where they found Kilgore’s body.
Cherokee County Sherriff Shaver thanked all the responding agencies, including the Etowah County Sheriff’s Department for sending both their unit and Armored Vehicle to assist.
