A disbarred Cedartown attorney accused stealing more than $2.5 million from injured clients pleaded guilty Tuesday on those charges.

Warrants for the arrest of 59-year-old Miles Lamar Gammage were taken out in November 2011, accusing the former attorney of using his clients’ settlement money for his own use.

GBI agents initially charged Gammage with over a dozen felony counts of theft and fraud relating to the conversion of the more than $2.5 million in settlements to pay personal and business expenses. He allegedly defrauded more than 50 of his seriously injured worker’s compensation clients between January 2008 and January 2012.

Gammage pleaded guilty in U.S. District Court Tuesday to one count of mail fraud. Sentencing is scheduled for May, before U.S. District Judge Robert L. Vining. He could face as much as 20 years behind bars and fined $250,000.
