Last week’s heavy rainfall led to a sewage spill in Rome.
According to a report from the Rome-Floyd Water & Sewage Department flooding along the Oostanaula River between Friday and Sunday caused more than 23,000 gallons of sewage to flow into a creek connected to the river.
The flood waters began to rise over manholes in the Green Acres subdivision on Old Dalton Road around 8 am Friday, and officials were unable to correct the problem until noon Sunday.
As a result the Rome Water Reclamation Facilities Lab will monitor the stream for one year.
