The list is down to two individuals vying for the top position in the Polk School District as the finalists were announced during a community input meeting Tuesday in Cedartown.
The Polk County school board in conjunction with the Georgia School Board Association chose former McIntosh County superintendent Dr. William Hunter and Dr. Samuel Light, a current superintendent in Glasford, Illinois, just outside of Peoria.
Hunter was fired from McIntosh County schools for undisclosed reasons back in May, according to WTOC-TV in Savannah when board members there voted to terminate his contract by a unanimous vote. Light, who has served as a superintendent of an Illinois school district for five years, previously served as head man for the Elbert County School system in Georgia.
County school board members declined to say exactly when a final decision would be made but it could be as early as next Tuesday.
