Calhoun City Police have released the identity of the young man that lost his life this weekend in a two-vehicle accident in Gordon County.
According to Chief Garry Moss, 19-year-old Kenny Owen Jr. of Calhoun was a passenger in a 2013 Dodge Charger that was traveling east on Laurel Creek Dr this past Saturday evening. Authorities believe the Charger lost control of his vehicle, crossed over the line into oncoming traffic and struck a 2011 Jeep Wrangler.
Owen was rushed to Gordon Hospital where he was pronounced dead by the coroner. The driver of the Jeep was also taken to the hospital and was treated and released later in the day.
Calhoun City Police continue to investigate the accident, and though no charges have been filed as of yet, they could be forthcoming.
A 19-year-old man was killed in a two-vehicle wreck in Calhoun Saturday night.
According to Calhoun City Police Lt. Tony Pyle, the fatal collision occurred around 8:19 in the evening on Laurel Creek Dr. Authorities believe a 2011 Jeep Wrangler was travelling westbound on the road when a 2013 Dodge Charger going the other way veered over into the Jeep’s lane and struck it. The 19-year-old victim, whose name has not yet been released by police, was a passenger in the charger.
There was only one other injury reported in the wreck; the driver of the jeep was treated and released at Gordon Hospital later that night.
