A major step forward in the process of bringing a new hospital to Polk County as the Georgia Department of Community Health issues a Certificate of Need.
The 73,000 square foot facility will be built on land currently owned by the Cedartown-Polk County Hospital Authority on Highway 278 near Kelly Road. Construction could begin as early as this summer with completion in the fall of 2014.
Kim Scoggins, administrator of Polk Medical Center says with the Certificate of Need in place, the design phase of construction can get underway in the next few months. The recent projections are months ahead of schedule from when Floyd entered into the lease agreement with the Cedartown-Polk County Hospital Authority.
The current facility built in 1944 has only been renovated twice in the 80’s and 90’s and lacks surgery capabilities.
Questions still remain on funding for infrastructure improvements that will be necessary to support such a facility.
