The Rome City and Floyd County Commission will be meeting this week for the first since their newly formed SPLOST committee has convened.
Both commissions are scheduled to hear a report from their elected delegates on just how that first meeting went. According to Floyd County Commissioner Rhonda Wallace, who serves as the county’s liaison to the committee, discussion was mostly centered around the long process to establish the penny tax. Wallace says it begins with an application anyone can fill out to see their project come to the county.
“The application is filled out and then the committee brings those applications back,” she says. “Then, the group as a whole will prioritize what they believe the most important things are. And, then we figure out how long of a SPLOST we need to do based on the project.”
The SPLOST committee’s next meeting will be in the first week in April. The Rome City Commission will meet Monday at 6:30pm, with the Floyd County Commission following them Tuesday at 6:00pm.
