The GBI crime lab has positively identified the body found in the Etowah last Thursday as that of Blake Cowart, who has been missing for over three weeks.
The 28-year-old Bartow County resident was last seen the night of April 3rd by his girlfriend, who says she woke up the next day to an empty home. After a severe brain injury, Cowart suffered from short-term memory loss and seizures, and many assumed the worst after his disappearance.
Family members say they knew something was wrong, as Cowart called his mother every day. She has not received a call from him since that Wednesday.
After authorities and volunteers combed the Etowah River and surrounding area for weeks, Cowart’s body was finally found by a fisherman on Thursday.
