Embattled Etowah Valley Humane Society Director Bryan Canty has resigned his position as the future Chairman of the Cartersville-Bartow County Chamber of Commerce.
Canty was the Chairman-elect-elect, as he was set to take over the lead position on the Board of Directors in January 2015.
The prominent community leader is accused of inappropriate behavior with a woman who was serving court-ordered community service hours at the animal shelter back in February. The victim claims Canty approached her from behind and pulled her pants down, exposing her in front of coworkers. She also claims Canty made offensive comments to her that were sexual in nature. Following a nearly four month investigation, Canty turned himself in last week at the Bartow County Sheriff’s Department on a single charge of misdemeanor Simple Battery.
Chamber President & CEO Joe Frank Harris Jr. sent out an email to members Monday evening saying Canty had resigned and that the search for a new Chamber Chairman for 2015 was already underway.
Canty declined to comment for the purposes of this story on advice from counsel.
