Bartow County is playing a hot hand when it comes to economic development.

In yet another major project announcement for the community, Shaw Industries joined local government officials Thursday afternoon to unveil plans to build a new carpet tiles manufacturing facility off Highway 140 in Adairsville which will bring with it 500 jobs.

The facility will be built in the approximate 120-acre lot known by many as the old Universal Ceramics property. For a city that only seven months ago was devastated by a tornado, Mayor Evan King says his emotions have now come full circle in 2013;

“I was working out of town and when I drove in to see what the tornado did to our community…just the shock of that situation…where do we go from here? What do we do? Then the initial cleanup, the initial efforts to put your community back together…the long hours that it took many of our staff people, many of our city employees, volunteers to make that happen and then go to seven months later, we’ve got one of the biggest announcements in the state that will be a big part of helping to put this community back together.”

Governor Nathan Deal’s office says construction will begin on the project in 2014.

Shaw is already the largest private employer in Bartow and once the new plant comes online, the company will be responsible for just over 3,000 manufacturing jobs in the county.

The Shaw facility joins other recent boons such as voestalpine, the Lakepoint development and the Toyo Tires expansion in what has been a recent run of success-stories for Bartow County’s still recovering economy.
