58,000 property tax bills are in the mail for all Floyd County citizens, and they just might be a bit smaller than you first thought.

According to Tax Commissioner Kevin Payne, many Floyd residents will see a drop in what they owe from 2012, as the millage rate for both the city and the county has fallen. This is due in-part to a drop in assessments and a reduction in the state portion of all property tax bills.

For Floyd County residents, a $100,000 home would incur $1,193.52 on the property tax bill without exemptions. The same house in Rome would see $1,402.68 bill.

You can make your payment online, by mail or in-person at the 5th Avenue Courthouse. The tax office accepts checks, cash and debit/credit cards, but you will be charged 2.2% convenience fee plus 30 cents if you pay with plastic.

Bills are due back on November 15th. Every month the payment is late, 1% interest will be tacked on to the original base amount.
