Week Two of the high school football season kicks-off this evening and some exciting rivalry games are on tap here in Northwest Georgia.
Top-ranked Calhoun welcomes the Dalton Catamounts to Gordon County tonight. Calhoun is coming off a 37-0 trouncing of Ridgeland last week, while Dalton is 0-1 after a rare loss to Ringgold. The Yellow Jackets and Catamounts have met 42 times in their series history and while Calhoun has won only seven of those games, they’ve managed to capture four in a row dating back to 2009.
Cartersville and Cass will play at Weinman Stadium tonight as the Canes look to maintain their stranglehold on the series between the bitter rivals. The Canes are 38-5 all-time against the Colonels but the games have been very close in recent years. Both teams are 1-0 this season after wins last week.
Star tailback Nick Chubb will lead the Cedartown Bulldogs into Floyd County for a showdown with Pepperell. Cedartown is looking for a 2-0 start while the Dragons are looking to avoid losing their first two games. Friday’s winner will have extra bragging rights with the all-time series between Cedartown and Pepperell knotted up 12-12-1.
Both Polk County teams are in Floyd tonight as Coosa welcomes Rockmart.
Rome and Hiram each lost their opening game last Friday and meet tonight in Paulding County in a region matchup.
Armuchee is home against Adairsville.
Sonoraville plays at Gilmer in Ellijay tonight.
Gordon Central is on the road against Southeast Whitfield.
Model looks to improve to 2-0 as they play host to Mt. Pisgah Christian.
Finally, East Paulding and Woodland meet in Bartow County in region play. Both teams are thus far winless in 2013.
Darlington is off this week.
All games kickoff tonight at 7:30 pm.
