A Rockmart man has been charged with Attempted Murder and Arson in-connection with an apartment fire in Polk County.
According to Rockmart Detective David Gowens, a blaze broke-out at the apartments on Hogue Ave. in Rockmart early Sunday morning. Luckily, one of the residents smelled smoke and alerted the others in the unit, all three making it out okay.
An investigation led by Gowens into the fire led authorities to take out warrants on 62-year-old James Melvin Moody, who was already in jail, having been arrested Sunday after the blaze on unrelated charges.
Gowens says Moody specifically targeted the Rockmart apartment unit, which led him to levy charges of Attempted Murder and Arson against the suspect.
The investigation is on-going and more charges could be forthcoming.
