Cartersville police arrested a Michigan man Monday afternoon in connection with the disappearance of a 12-year-old female runaway from Louisiana.
According to Cartersville Chief of Police Thomas Culpepper, the young female was listed as a runaway in Louisiana since her departure sometime late Sunday night or early Sunday morning. An investigation by local law enforcement led authorities to believe that 22-year-old Brett Robert Burke and the juvenile were in the Cartersville area.
Burke and the young girl reportedly knew one another from the internet. Police say over the weekend, he traveled to Louisiana to pick up the juvenile and brought her up to Cartersville, where he was apparently staying with friends.
The investigation is on-going, but as of right now, Burke has been charged with Aggravated Sodomy, Aggravated Child Molestation, and Interference with Child Custody. Further charges are not out of the question.
He is currently being housed in the Bartow County jail.
