A 19-year-old Rockmart man was gunned down Tuesday and police are currently searching for the alleged shooter.

Polk County Coroner Trey Litesey says Desmond Ray Kinnemore (pictured) of Morgan Valley Road in Rockmart was fatally injured in a shooting incident that occurred Tuesday morning.

Rockmart Police responded to the scene just after 10:30 Tuesday morning and found Kinnemore face down in a ditch alongside Second Street near Morgan Valley Road. Rockmart Police Chief Keith Sorrells says many of the nearby residents heard between three or five gunshots, but were not aware that someone was shot.

“The folks that I actually spoke with were busy doing things and paid no attention until they heard the ambulance,” Sorrells said Tuesday.

No motive behind the shooting has been released by investigators. Polk County Jail records indicate Kinnemore has been in trouble the law before, having been arrested 8 different times over the past three years for charges ranging from marijuana possession to aggravated assault.

Kinnemore’s body has been sent to the GBI Crime Lab for an autopsy. Anyone with information pertaining to the case to call the Rockmart Police Department at (770) 684-6558.

This is the third homicide case in Northwest Georgia over the past month. The murders of Randall Statler in Cartersville on December 16 at the Sun Glow Car-wash, along with the New Years Eve slaying of Willie Terry Slack on Kingston Avenue in Rome remain unsolved.
