U.S. Senator Johnny Isakson, R-Ga., was in Northwest Georgia Thursday speaking to the Rome Rotarians on a number of issues, including the gun control discussion in Washington.

The issue has reached its pinnacle this week with the suggestion of President Barack Obama using the power of the executive branch to tighten regulations on guns, specifically assault rifles and high capacity clips similar to those used in the Sandy Hook Elementary shooting in December.

“They’ve talked about Executive orders, but I don’t think you’re going to see an Executive order with much punch to it because you’re dealing with the Constitution and it does not allow the President of the United States to usurp the Constitution through an Executive order,” Isakson told John Druckenmiller Thursday morning on Hometown Headlines Radio Edition.

The Senate will soon be considering former GOP Senator Chuck Hagel as Obama’s pick to replace Leon Panetta as Defense Secretary. The looming debt ceiling debate also lies on the horizon for Isakson and the rest of the Democratic controlled Senate.
