The Georgia State Patrol took a Cherokee County man into custody over the weekend after a routine stop became a high speed chase which started in Bartow and ended in Cobb.
According to a statement from the GSP on Monday, police arrested Winston Keith Wiggins, age 45 of Woodstock, after leading officers down I-75 while drunk. Police were conducting a license check late Saturday night near Emerson when Wiggins allegedly failed to stop and headed for the interstate. He drove southbound about 120 miles-per-hour before being corralled a few miles later at I-75 and Canton Road when officers initiated the P.I.T. maneuver, forcing Wiggins to crash into the median.
After being booked into the Bartow County Jail shortly before 11 pm Saturday, Wiggins was charged with two counts of Aggravated Assault against a Police Officer, one count of Alluding Police and a number of traffic offenses including D-U-I.
