Some very unhappy faces are gracing the gas pumps.

“It is what it is,” Jeremy Thacker said as he pump gas into his car at the newly re-opened BP on Shorter Avenue Tuesday night. “I’m not happy about it, but there’s not much else I can do about it, but just pay,”

Floyd County residents were shelling out $3.72 for fuel  yesterday, which represents a staggering $0.20 jump since just Monday morning. Communities all across the state are seeing similar hikes; AAA-South reports the average cost of regular unleaded fuel has jumped up by $0.34 in a month.

And sadly, these numbers could just keep climbing according to Jessica Brady, AAA-South Spokeswoman.

“I think we’re going to see prices increase again this week, but probably not another 20 cent jump, keep your fingers crossed,” Brady said. “Prices are probably going to continue to go up through-out the month, into March. And we’re still looking at peaking in April, but we’ll see where that takes us.”

In Rome, the low price of $3.65 for regular unleaded can be found at two stations; a Mapco on Shorter Avenue at Huffaker Rd. and a Shell Station on Redmond Cir.

Cedartown boasts the lowest price in Polk County, where regular unleaded fuel is being sold at a Marathon Station on North Main St. for $3.54.

In Gordon County, the cheapest gas can be found in Calhoun alongside US-41 near the I-75 exit, where three gas stations are selling regular unleaded fuel for under $3.60.

But, if you’re planning a trip through Cartersville, it might be wise to fill up there. They have some of the cheapest gas in Northwest Georgia. A Pure Station on Joe Frank Harris Parkway and a Horizon station on US-411 near Old Henderson Rd. are selling fuel for $3.49.
