An innovative method for disposing of expired medications is being introduced to Bartow County.

In a press release, Bartow Sherriff Clark Millsap announced the county’s acquisition of a Drug Drop Box, where anyone and everyone can safely dispose of their unwanted prescription medications anonymously. The waste bin, which appears a bit like a library drop-off box for books, was received through a grant from Endo Pharmaceuticals and the National Association of Drug Diversion Investigators.

Many people may not know that medicines should not be thrown away or flushed down the toilet. According to Millsap, studies have shown that medicine that lingers in cabinets are highly susceptible to misuse and abuse, by both family and friends alike.

The Dropbox is permanently located in the Bartow County Sherriff’s Office Administration lobby, which is open from 8am-to 5pm Monday through Friday. The pharmaceuticals inside will be destroyed in the proper manner.
