It was a play you’d normally see on a football field, but Berry College pitcher is making national news after tackling a base-runner about to score Sunday.
The Vikings were down 5-2 to Hendrix College in the bottom of the fifth with the bases loaded, when Berry Pitcher Levi Austin threw a wild pitch. Berry’s Catcher missed the ball, and as he scrambled off after it, the Hendrix batter on third base made a move to steal home plate.
What happened next attracted the attention of Yahoo! Sports and USAToday---Austin ran after the base-thief and tackled him to the ground.
According to Yahoo!, Austin was surprisingly allowed to stay in the game, but is suspended from the conferences’ next three game series.
Berry did end up rallying against Hendrix with a 9-7 victory.
