UPDATE: It was a deadly day in Chattooga County; two men were killed in two separate wrecks within hours of each other Monday.

According to the Georgia State Patrol, a head-on collision on Highway 27 in Summerville claimed the life of 53-year-old Randy Michael Cromer of Alabama early Monday morning. Chattooga County Radio AM 1180 reports that an unidentified female in the other vehicle, which was hit by Cromer’s 1999 Ford Ranger when it crossed the line, was taken to a Rome hospital for immediate surgery. Her condition remains unknown.

The second crash occurred around 2:50pm on Highway 27 near Mountain View Road in Trion. Paul Arnold Howell, age 62 of Trion, was driving a pickup truck that left the roadway, travelled down an embankment and hit a tree. Howell was pronounced dead at the scene of the crash.
