A convenience store in South Rome was the victim of an armed robbery Friday night.
According to Rome City Police Lt. John Walters, the incident occurred around 11pm just as the clerk at the Big H convenience store on East Main St. was closing up. As the employee was taking out the trash, two black males, both wearing hoodies and bandanas over their faces, cornered him. One of the assailants reportedly held a knife to the clerk and guided him inside where they demanded he open the slot machines for money. When he couldn’t, they took money out of the register and several phone cards before fleeing.
Attempts to track the suspects down with a K-9 unit were unsuccessful.
There are no current suspects at this time, however Lt. Walter says there is security footage of the assailants, which could provide a lead in the investigation.
