At some point today, Northwest Georgia Congressman Phil Gingrey is expected to announce his bid for the U.S. Senate.
According to the AJC, a source close to the Representative claims Gingrey will kick-off his 2014 campaign by hosting two events today in Augusta and Atlanta.
Gingrey has been flirting with an official run for months now, even having this to say when he appeared on Hometown Headlines Radio Edition in February.
“We’re certainly going to look at everything we need to look at and we’ll make that decision in due time,” Gingrey told John Druckenmiller. “But, it’s definitely leaning in that direction and, I’m going to need a lot of great support from the wonderful people of Northwest Georgia.”
If all goes according to reports, Gingrey will be the second Republican to announce his bid for the seat Saxby Chambliss will retire from in 2014. U.S. Representative Paul Broun of Athens announced his potential candidacy in February.
