Monday night was the final commission meeting for Rome City attorney Bob Brinson, who has served the city for over 45 years. Since his 1968 hire, Brinson has defended the city’s interests in both the Georgian and U.S. Supreme Court, all the while working with some 50 different commissioners and three city managers.

Before a packed audience, Brinson received two proclamations and, the city’s highest honor, the key to Rome.

“I want to thank all of you and all of your predecessors for quite a ride---I enjoyed every minute of it and appreciated every minute of it,” Brinson said to commissioners. “And if I can ever do anything for this city again, don’t hesitate to ask. I love you all.”

Also at the meeting, Rome Commissioners were updated on the progress of South Rome’s redevelopment. Since 2000, the residents in South Rome have increased by 1,000 people. Housing units have similarly increased.

Next on the docket for the South Rome Redevelopment Corporation is to develop a community garden and start a working farmers market.
