Nearly a week after he was assigned to the Rome Braves roster for rehab by the parent club’s front office, Atlanta six-time All-Star catcher Brian McCann will play his first game at State Mutual Stadium this evening.
Taking his first at-bats Friday in Greensboro McCann had three hits, including two home runs. He also had four RBI’s, walked twice and scored three times en route to a 10-6 Rome victory. McCann’s arrival has dovetailed with a five game winning streak for Rome.
First pitch is set for 7 pm tonight from State Mutual Stadium.
McCann is rehabbing from offseason surgery and has yet to appear in a game in the major leagues so far this season. His absence hasn’t hindered Atlanta however, as the Braves closed the first month of the regular season last night with a National League best 17-9 record and perfect 5-0 mark against rival Washington.
