New details have been revealed in the nearly month old investigation into the massive explosion of a generator at Georgia Power’s Plant Bowen.

According to information provided by the Georgia Power media relations office, the April 4th explosion was a result of a combustible mixture of hydrogen and air inside the unit.

The report went on to say that this was not the result of an equipment failure, leading to the assumption that human error could have been the cause.

Two power generating units at the plant are still offline as the investigation continues. Two other units are now operational and are producing power, according to the utility.

The explosion nearly a month ago was a rare blemish on the plant’s safety record.

The findings are the result of an internal investigation. A federal probe into the explosion is still pending.
