Former Bartow County School Board Member Angie Cornett made local and even national headlines last December when she struck a teen girl with her SUV over a parking spot at the Cartersville Wal-Mart. On Wednesday Cornett received her sentence in Superior Court after entering a guilty plea on Reckless Conduct charges. Earnestine Young-Jones has the story from Cartersville;

"Angie Cornett was arrested following an altercation at the Cartersville Wal-Mart on December 28th, 2012.  Cornett appeared before Judge Scott Smith Wednesday afternoon and entered a guilty plea.  She was sentenced to 12 months probation, a $500 fine, a 16 hour anger management course and 40 hours of community service.  She also agreed to have no contact with the victim Emily Gulledge or her family.  According to the police report, Gulledge stood in a parking spot in an attempt to save it for her sister-in-law.  Cornett attempted to pull her vehicle into the parking space and struck Gulledge's right leg."

Assistant District Attorney Mickey Thacker says the family is satisfied with the ruling from the court. The victim did not attend the sentencing hearing due to media attention.

Cornett originally denied the allegations but later resigned her position on the school board after Wal-Mart surveillance video showed her accelerating into the parking spot where the victim was standing.
