The Rome City Commission met for what was a fairly low-key and brief meeting Monday evening.
Few items were on the agenda though according to City Clerk Joe Smith, the Alcohol Control Commission’s recommended punishment for local business ‘The Lantern’ was approved;
"The recommendation was that the entertainment license be suspended for a three day period. That was approved by the City Commission, however 'The Lantern' is currently closed and the penalty will be imposed if the current owner reopens…if they don’t reopen and a new owner opens 'The Lantern' then the penalty would not be imposed."
First readings were held on items concerning a Special Use Permit for the South Rome community garden off Pennington Avenue and the rezoning of property on Center Street for the benefit of a health and fitness club.
The meeting also brought a night of recognition for Rick Waters who was recently named Georgia Parking Staff Member of the Year for 2013. Waters is listed as a citizen employee for the Downtown Development Authority.
