Lunch prices are going up at four Rome City Schools.

At their Tuesday meeting, the City School Board passed the 10 cent hike, which will only be felt at East Central, West End and Rome Middle and High. The price increase is a federal mandate for all schools that charge less than $2.59 for a school lunch.

“Because we’re in the federal lunch program, there are mandated prices we have to charge,” Bearden says. “Because we charge less than the price is supposed to be, we have to have the 10 cent increase.”

Both Rome High and Middle will charge $1.85, with the two elementary schools now charging $1.60.

Also on the agenda for Board Members was the official E-SPLOST IV resolution. The Floyd County School Board approved the motion last week, and, as of the city’s Tuesday meeting, the proposed penny-tax is now formally set on the November ballot.
