The early start time apparently disagreed with the Rome Braves Wednesday morning at the Jersey Shore against the BlueClaws. Lakewood defeated Rome 9-1 in a matchup that got underway about 11 am.
Rome scored a run in the top of the 1st inning but the bats were silent the rest of the ballgame as Lakewood cruised to an easy victory in front of an announced crowd of more than 6,600 fans at FirstEnergy Park. Five of Lakewood’s nine runs were unearned thanks to a pair of Rome fielding errors.
Rome has lost the first two games on this seven game road trip and will look to avoid the sweep at the hands of the BlueClaws Thursday evening. The Braves begin a four game series in Maryland against the Hagerstown Suns Friday and return home to State Mutual Stadium Wednesday July 17th.
