The Rome Alcohol Control Commission voted 4-1 to suspend the entertainment license of “El Patron Sports Bar” for three days following a hearing Monday night which highlighted the establishment’s pattern of noise violations.
The ACC monthly meeting stretched for nearly two hours Monday as police, a neighbor and “El Patron” owner Rodrigo Barhona-Morales addressed the Commission about three citations, five total written complaints and numerous verbal warnings the business has received in the two months since it’s opening on Redmond Circle.
With a minimum of four votes needed to pass a motion ACC Chairman and Rome Mayor Pro-Tem Milton Slack III was called to cast the deciding vote Monday. He explains why he voted in favor of the suspension;
“Whether it’s right or wrong it’s the law. When you have to keep coming back and they’ve brought charges several times, then to me that’s a flagrant disregard of the law.”
Slack added the top priority in any ACC decision is always public safety.
Commissioner Wendy Davis was the lone nay vote.
The decision now goes to the Rome City Commission at their meeting February 24. If the ACC suggestion is upheld “El Patron” will have their license suspended from Thursday February 27 through Saturday March 1.
In other business the ACC approved a beer and wine pouring license for “Peach” on Broad Street.
