More jobs created and less people out of work—that’s what the latest unemployment numbers show for the Rome area.

Numbers released by the Georgia Department of Labor show that 800 jobs were created in January, that’s up 2.1 percent from January of last year.

Also there were 352 fewer initial unemployment claims filed than last year.

Georgia’s unemployment rate declined for the seventh constructive month, dropping to seven point three percent in January from a rate of seven point four percent in December.

More than three hundred and forty thousand Georgians remain unemployed with more than 150,000 of them unemployed for more than 27 weeks.
