The construction fences are gone and the finished product is just weeks away from completion at the Urban Riverfront and Town Green project in downtown Rome.
According to Assistant City Manager Sammy Rich, if all goes according to plan, officials hope to commemorate the project with a grand opening and fountain re-dedication on Friday, May 30. Additional details on the dedication ceremony will be released in the coming days.
Rich says the renewed interest in the river convergence and the relationship between the rivers and the ambiance of downtown Rome has come together to provide a unique experience.
In other business at Wednesday’s Public Works and Transit Committee Meeting, director Kirk Milam said that work will resume on the Crescent Avenue bridge project, which was stalled as the ground was allowed to settle in preparation of the new bridge placement.
