Sheriff's office: Deputy's gun accidentally discharges while serving warrant

At about 1:15 p.m., deputies from the Floyd County Sheriff’s Office were attempting to serve a warrant at an address on Fortune Street in Rome, GA.
During the course of interviewing individuals at the location, the deputy’s service weapon discharged. At the time of the discharge the weapon was secured in the deputy’s holster. A supervisor from the Sheriff’s office was on scene at the time of the incident.
Deputies on the scene immediately secured the weapon and checked everyone near the scene for injuries.
No injuries were reported and no medical assistance was necessary. Additional law enforcement officers arrived on the scene to offer aid if necessary.
Once additional supervisor’s arrived on the scene the incident was addressed and the scene cleared. As per normal procedures, the Sheriff’s Office Division Commander requested an investigation into the incident by the Rome Police Department. This incident is still under investigation by both agencies.
