Pedestrian struck and killed on U.S. 27 identified

UPDATED:

The pedestrian killed this morning has been identified as 28-year-old Tiffany D. Cox of Antioch, Tennessee. She was pronounced dead on the scene at 7:05 a.m., according to Floyd County Deputy Coroner Ernie Studard.

PREVIOUSLY POSTED:

A woman is dead after she was truck by a vehicle while crossing U.S. 27 South near Mark Street this morning.

According to Floyd County Police spokesman Jerome Poole, a man was driving a 2007 Nissan Altima soutbound around 6:30 a.m. when the woman ran out in front of him.

"He couldn't avoid hitting her," Poole said.

The name of the woman has not been releaed pending notification of relatives. Poole said she is from out of town.

The driver of the Altima will not be charged.
