Tax Free Holiday starts tonight

July 31, 2014--10:06 a.m.

By David Crowder

This weekend, shoppers will be able to purchase back-to-school supplies during Georgia’s Sales Tax Holiday.

Certain items, like clothing and computers, will be exempt from state sales taxes from 12:01 Friday night until midnight Saturday.

In addition to making parents happy, the tax free holiday is also a good time for businesses.

Lowell Pratt with the Greater Rome Chamber of Commerce reminds everyone to Shop Rome this weekend, “Shopping locally, even the tax-free weekend still supports businesses in the community. It moves products off their shelves, it helps with their inventory and it supports other people who live in work in the community and make a living from the businesses that they run. Whether it’s a small business or a retail store, there is still a lot of benefits to shopping locally this weekend, even though sales tax is not being collected.”
