90-Mile Yard Sale This Weekend

The Dixie Highway 90-Mile Yard Sale follows the route of the old Dixie Highway. This highway opened in 1917 and connected Michigan with Florida, giving Northerners the opportunity to travel south for the winter.
Since 2006, the yard sale highlights counties and communities of Northwest Georgia, including Cartersville, Calhoun, Dalton, Adairsville, and Emerson among others.
Cartersville-Bartow County Convention & Visitors Bureau executive director Ellen Archer said a yard sale just seemed like a great thing to do for the area from the start, and it has become a multi-county effort.
“Years later now, this event has taken on a life of its own,” said Archer, “which really requires not so much staff time, but it brings in dollars into our community.”
Along the 90-mile route, Archer explained there are Mega-Sale Sites. These have many various vendors and stretch between Adairsville and Lookout Mountain.
When it comes to the yard sale shoppers, Archer explained that they are not just from the Northwest Georgia area.
“They’re coming from all surrounding states and the far reaches of southern Georgia.”
Archer said the Dixie Highway 90-Mile Yard Sale does help to bring in revenue to the communities of Northwest Georgia, but it isn’t the only thing.
“We know it’s a great deal to bring people into our communities and discover not just those hidden treasures in the yard sale, but the hidden treasures in the small towns around the route.”
The yard sale kicks off Friday, June 6 and continues through Sunday, June 8.
