Rockmart First United Methodist Church hosted its first River of Life mission project for Polk County last week. Between 35 and 40 students attended and were sent out into Rockmart and surrounding areas to eight work sites repairing homes and cleaning up the Silver Comet Trail.

Organizer and church member Jimmy Jones says the clients of the projects appreciated the help from the River of Life participants.

“They have loved the kids. They’ve loved on them. They’ve loved the team leaders and the adult volunteers. It’s just been great to go out and see them and hear them talk.”

Reverend Jeanette Dickens was pleased with the turnout. She hopes to see the number of participants grow for next summer and years to come.

“My hope is we’ll have more kids that would never be able to experience a camp or a mission project, and that all of our youth would then end up bringing and telling a friend that came this year.”
